PDFs & Stacks
What is a Stack?
A Stack is a collection of pages. Pages can be ones you create in Defter Notes, or they can come from an imported PDF. As of ver 2.0, any imported PDF automatically opens as a Stack (giving you full editing and annotation capabilities on every page).
Creating a Stack
Drag the PDF Stack icon from the Side Menu onto your Space to create a Stack container. You can then drag pages or a PDF into it.
Navigating a Stack
Action | How |
|---|---|
Go to next page | Tap the right side of the current page |
Go to previous page | Tap the left side of the current page |
Jump to any page quickly | Swipe along the Stack bar |
Open page settings | Double tap the page |
Note: Page navigation via tap gesture can be toggled on or off under Settings → General → Defaults → Stacks.
Rearranging & Editing Pages
The bar at the bottom of a Stack shows thumbnails of all its pages. By holding and dragging these thumbnails you can fully manage the contents and order of your Stack:
Gesture | Result | When to use |
|---|---|---|
Hold & drag a thumbnail outward from the bar | Extracts the page out of the Stack onto the Space | Useful for placing pages side by side, comparing content, or removing a page from the Stack entirely |
Hold & drag a page from the Space onto the bar | Inserts the page into the Stack | Useful for adding your own notes or pages into a PDF, or merging content from different sources |
Hold & drag a thumbnail within the bar | Rearranges the order of pages | Useful for reorganizing a PDF, merging multiple PDFs, or editing and revising the structure of a Stack |
For example, if you're working with two PDFs and want to combine them, you can extract pages from one Stack and drag them into the bar of another. Or if you've written notes on a separate Page, you can drag it into a PDF Stack to keep everything together in one place.
PDF Hyperlinks
If your PDF contains hyperlinks, tapping them works as expected. For more precise interaction, use your Apple Pencil with the Selection tool.
