Handwriting & Drawing Tools

Defter Notes integrates seamlessly with Apple Pencil, offering realistic handwriting capabilities that emulate the feel of pen and paper (fluid, natural, and intuitive).

The Toolwheel

The Toolwheel is your Apple Pencil tool hub (access drawing tools, colors, and resizing controls all in one place).

  • Tap the center to minimize it when you need more Space.

  • Hold and drag the center to reposition it anywhere. It snaps to corners for convenience.

Pen Tools

Tool

Description

Pen

Precise, fine writing. Pressure-sensitive for natural variation in line thickness (mimics ink flow).

Pencil

Gritty, textured strokes. Tilt-sensitive, making it ideal for sketching and shading.

Marker

Thick, flat, brush-like strokes with slight transparency. Acts as a highlighter with lighter colors; layering creates realistic coloring.

Eraser

Responds to tilt angle and zoom level for precision. Choose between Pixel Eraser and Stroke Eraser modes.

Selection Tool

Ver 2.0 introduces a unified Selection tool, accessible from the Toolwheel, that combines the previous Lasso function with a new item selection mode. Its behavior adapts based on where you activate it:

  • Activated on an item (acts as a Lasso, letting you select and manipulate handwritten content within that item). After selecting you can move, delete, copy, or duplicate.

  • Activated on an empty area of a Space (acts as a Selection, letting you draw a region to select multiple items at once).

The Selection tool can also be used instead of your finger for any of the following gestures:

  • Hold and drag (to move items)

  • Tap

  • Double tap

Tip: This makes the Selection tool especially useful for precise interaction (for example, tapping PDF hyperlinks or double tapping items to open their edit menus without switching away from your Apple Pencil).

Scribble

Apple's Scribble automatically converts your handwriting into typed text inside any textbox. Make sure Scribble is enabled in your iPad's Apple Pencil settings.
